# Why do AI video generations fail or get blocked?

**Short answer:** Three different things look like a failure: transient job errors that pass on retry, content moderation that blocks an input or an output, and running out of credit. In our productions about one Seedance 2.0 Fast clip in fifteen failed once and then passed, while lookalike-face blocks failed every time until we changed the face.

## Tell the three apart

| Kind | What it looks like | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Transient failure | A job errors with no clear reason and passes on the next try | Retry automatically, once or twice |
| Moderation block | The same shot fails every time, often with a policy or copyright message | Change the input that triggers it; retrying does nothing |
| Balance or quota | Every job fails at once with a payment or quota error | Top up or wait; check the balance before queuing a batch |

## Transient failures

On Seedance 2.0 Fast about one clip in fifteen failed once and passed on retry; one shot in The Little Fairy Bakery needed three attempts. These are normal for hosted video models under load. Automatic retries turn them from a stall into a few extra seconds.

## Lookalike faces

The block we hit most often was not about violence or nudity. Seedance blocks generated video when a face looks like a famous actor, with a message that the video "may be related to copyright restrictions". In [BROODFALL](https://arc.katechon.technology/films/broodfall) a lead with a shaved head and a grey beard had about 5% of his shots blocked. In another series, almost every failed shot belonged to one elderly character whose white hair and beard read like a well-known actor. Rewriting the shots did not help. Redesigning the face did: different facial hair, glasses, a different hairstyle. Then re-render every shot of that character so the new face is consistent.

## Other blocks

- Named real people, brands and recognizable copyrighted characters in prompts or reference images.
- Reference images that look like photographs of real people, especially scraped ones.
- Explicit sexual content, which every hosted model refuses.
- Some models are stricter than others, and the rules change without notice; there is no hosted model with no restrictions.

## Running out of credit

Two of our films lost their provider balance mid-production: [RatKid and the Red Balloon](https://arc.katechon.technology/films/ratkid-and-the-red-balloon) moved to a second provider and kept its cast; [BROODFALL](https://arc.katechon.technology/films/broodfall) became a cut of the clips that already existed. Price the batch and check the balance before you queue it.

Every failure that is retried still costs time, and blocked shots that get rewritten cost generated seconds. Across our first five series, re-renders of all kinds were 15% of video spend.

## Where Katechon Arc fits

Arc retries failed provider jobs automatically, refuses a batch your credits cannot cover before it starts, and lets you redesign one character and re-render only that character's shots.

Arc renders on hosted Seedance models and inherits their moderation; it cannot unblock content the provider refuses.

## People also ask

### Is Seedance 2.0 censored?

Yes, like every hosted video model it moderates inputs and outputs. In our productions the most common block was a generated face that resembled a famous actor, fixed by redesigning the face.

### Is there an AI video generator with no restrictions?

Not among hosted models. Every hosted service applies content rules; open-weight models run on your own hardware are the only route with no provider moderation, and you are still responsible for what you publish.
