# What is an MCP server, and what does it do for AI video?

**Short answer:** MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call tools on another service: the server lists its tools, and the assistant decides when to call them. ## How it works

1. **A server publishes tools.** Each tool has a name, a description and typed inputs, such as create_project or generate_videos.
2. **A client connects.** An AI assistant or coding agent is configured with the server's URL and a credential.
3. **The model chooses tools.** When your request needs one, the assistant calls it with arguments and reads the result.
4. **Long jobs run asynchronously.** Video takes minutes, so good servers return a job or batch id that the agent checks later.
